A POPULAR rock band have announced their first London show in 20 years – after splitting up in 2005.

Norwegian outfit Span – Jarle Bernhoft, Fridtjof “Joff” Nilsen, Kim Nordbæk and Fredrik Wallumrød – will bring their “turbo rock ‘n’ roll” to the 02 Islington Academy in September.

The band played the final gig of their initial run in Oslo back in 2005 after coming painfully close to landing a major label deal in the United States.

Span piqued the interest of record giant Interscope after a raucous showcase at LA’s iconic Troubadour venue, but an internal restructuring put an end to the initial agreement.

Instead, their second album Vs. Time was released domestically only, but fared well with a number two single in Cut Like Diamonds.

Span’s final UK show was at Download Festival in June 2004.

The band members have been busy in the years since they called it a day.

Singer Jarle has had a solid solo career putting out eight studio albums, the most recent of which, Avenue of Loveless Hearts, came out last year.

While the remaining three members formed heavy metal band Dog Almighty with Farout Fishing frontman Sindri, putting out one album before calling it quits.

The Islington date is being billed as the band’s ‘last ever’ UK show suggesting that the comeback will be short-lived.

Tickets for the gig go on sale this Friday at 10am.

It’ll be a fist-pumping affair full of headbanging anthems if the group’s recent anniversary show at the Tons Of Rock Festival, Oslo, Norway was anything to go by.

The concert was their fourth performance on home soil this year and featured tracks Peaceful, Stay as You Are, Papa and Baby’s Come Back.
