SOME Virgin Media customers may notice eight extra channels on their boxes this week.

Whether you have them or not will depend on your TV subscription.

There have been a number of changes to channels on Virgin Media recently.

Four channels underwent a big revamp earlier this week, which took effect on Sky and Freeview too.

These are Drama, Dave, W and Yesterday, which are now known as U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&W and U&YESTERDAY.

And at the start of the month, NOW 90s & 00s launched to fill the void from a mass exodus of music channels.

The Box, 4Music, Kiss, Magic and Kerrang TV all closed down – The Box being the longest on air for 32 years.

But this week sees the introduction of eight new channels – albeit temporary launches for a special sporting event.

That event is the Olympics, of course.

A week before everything starts, Eurosport’s extra channels for Olympic events have gone live.

The first sporting action from Paris includes archery, football, handball and the rugby sevens, which will take place on July 24, two days before the opening ceremony.

Bonus Eurosport channels are only available to Virgin Media subscribers who already have Eurosport added to their package.

One of the channels is a UHD channel to enjoy competitions with even better quality.

The full list of channels are:

Eurosport UHD – 562

Eurosport 3 HD – 563

Eurosport 4 HD – 564

Eurosport 5 HD – 565

Eurosport 6 HD – 566

Eurosport 7 HD – 567

Eurosport 8 HD – 568

Eurosport 9 HD – 569

For those without Eurosport, the BBC will continue to air coverage of course.

The broadcaster will show more than 250 hours of live Olympic events across BBC One, BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

There will be one live channel as well as an Olympics Extra live stream on BBC iPlayer.
