DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — The Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority will receive an approximately $5.6 million discretionary grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Senator Katie Britt’s Office announced Thursday.
This grant will fund the final phase of a project to rehabilitate and repair the airport’s 8,503-foot paved runway.
According to Senator Britt’s Office, this work will extend the runway’s overall life and improve commercial, military, and general aviation operations. It will also help the over twenty businesses and agencies that call the Dothan-Houston County Airport home.
The funds were provided by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 and announced by the Department of Transportation on September 6.
“The Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority is thrilled to announce the receipt of over $5.6 million in Federal Funds aimed at enhancing infrastructure at Dothan Regional Airport. These funds will primarily go towards rehabilitating the asphalt on our main runway and initiating improvements to the airfield’s drainage system. This critical project, made possible through the steadfast support of Senator Britt, underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships in sustaining exceptional service for Military, Corporate, and General Aviation users throughout the Wiregrass Area,” said Adam Hartzog, Dothan-Houston County Regional Airport Executive Director.
