DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — The rape and sodomy case against a Dothan-based activist has been dropped at the request of Houston County prosecutors.
Houston County Judge Kevin Moulton dropped the charges against Derrick Wayne Oliver and dismissed his case on Wednesday, September 11.
District Attorney Russ Goodman tells WDHN that during a meeting with prosecutors, the alleged victim recanted her claim and said the crime did not happen.
Oliver was arrested last Halloween and charged with one count of rape and three counts of sodomy.
At the time of his arrest, Oliver helped with the group Team Up 4 Teens in the Wiregrass.
Oliver was indicted in April and pled not guilty to the charges in July, just three months before his case was dropped.
Dothan Police investigators claimed the alleged crimes took place against a 12-year-old within the Dothan city limits between February 2019 and June 2023.
