New trucking hub coming to Dale Co., state commits almost two hundred thousand in funds

DALE COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — Dale County is receiving a $180,000 grant from the state to build a new trucking freight hub near Midland City.

According to a release from the Governor’s office, this Community Development Block Grant will provide infrastructure to construct a 21,200-square-foot building for Averitt Express.

The new hub, which is expected to create 20 new jobs for the area, will include a service center and warehouse.

This facility will be on Mance Newton Road, just off Highway 231. Some of the state funds will also be used to resurface a portion of Mance Newton Road.

“I am pleased to award this grant to the Dale County Commission to help prepare access to the 14-acre site where Averitt Express will be located and afford the company ample room to grow and hire more employees in the future,” Gov. Ivey said.  “Averitt Express has a strong background with numerous fleet safety awards and will be a good addition to Dale County.”

Averitt Express currently has a facility in Dothan, only 1.5 miles from the new location, and employs approximately 35 wiregrass citizens. The company says it plans to invest around $15 million in the Dale County location.

Gov. Ivey’s release says Dale County officials have pledged $36,000 in local funds for the project.
