FREE-to-play titles are some of the biggest in gaming, though the vast majority are from a shooter genre.
Battle royales like Fortnite, hero shooters like Apex Legends, and FPSs like Call of Duty Warzone are all among the most popular in gaming.

However, thatgamecompany broke the mould of popular free-to-play games with something very different in Sky: Children of Light.
You’ve probably played one of thatgamecompany’s games, whether that’s Flower or its breakout success with the award-winning Journey.
Sky is more about gaming’s social nature, offering people more ways to connect with others from all over the world.
It has become a global phenomenon, with players helping each other to improve the gaming experience.
Players help translate messages into different languages for others, and you’ll find there isn’t a rude or nasty comment in the entire game.
Sky is about togetherness and while it’s huge in a number of countries – notably in Asia – it’s not as popular in Europe and North America.
Thatgamecompany is looking to change that, and over the years Sky has opened up to more players by expanding its platforms, and holding live events.
The most popular in-game events involve the singer Aurora, who held a concert for the millions of players who attended.
Sky’s latest live event is currently ongoing, and it doesn’t matter whether you’ve been playing for years or have just started out, you’re more than welcome to attend.
Skyfest is currently being held in Tokyo, Japan and Chengdu, China, where more than 300k players are in attendance, but a further 700k people are joining in-game.
People not only attended in order to connect with others, but also to hear about the upcoming additions to the game.
The biggest announcement was that the upcoming season will be in collaboration with Moomins, as it tells the story of Ninny.
This season’s topic discusses staying true to yourself and overcoming issues from childhood.
More details were also revealed about the upcoming animated series, Sky: The Two Embers, which will be released next year.
Sky: Children of the Light is available to play on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5
and mobile.
